The Arctic
Museum Nanoq is situated in Faboda, 7 km from the city centre of
Pietarsaari. Nanoq means polar bear in the Greenland
language.
The
building project began in 1988 by the association Nanuk r.f.and the creator Pentti
Kronqvist, but it opened its doors in May 1991. It all started in Faboda, where
Pentti kronqvist built eight cottages.
Every year
Nanoq gets 8,000-10,000 visitors from all over the world. The museum presenst
Arctic art, life and culture, stretching from Siberia to Greenland
and including expeditions to the North Pole and the South Pole. The museum also
has an extensive collection of Arctic books andDVDs.
This place was amazing, all the sculpture were
unique and the staff available and
prepared, moreover it was exciting seeing a real polar bear, Eskimo’s houses
and learning the story of that culture.
