M. K. ČIURLIONIS NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART
Museum and art gallery The Museum was founded in 1921. In 1925 the temporary M. K. Čiurlionis Gallery was opened. In 1936 it was converted into Vytautas the Great Museum of Culture and was transferred to the new premises. In 1944 it was renamed the M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum. In 1969 the museum was expanded and the gallery of works by M. K. Čiurlionis was opened in the extension. Founder of the museum – Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. It is the best place in Lithuania to become acquainted with the development of Lithuanian and international art history and culture, from ancient times to the present day. The museum sponsors international exhibitions along with lectures, concerts, conferences, and special educational activities for children. Painter, composer, mystic and depressive are the words I would use to describe this famous artist. National revival and the celebration of his nation where the goals of his art. In his works he synthesized painting and music, the result is an extraordinary journey towards emotions. His visionary art reminds me the works of William Blake and at the same time he can be defined a Romantic, a Symbolist and a Modernist. Meeting his works and life was a pleasant and amazing surprise.
