1. - 4. Statue of Grand Duke Gediminas - "Lietuvos Didysis Kuningaikstis Gediminas 1316 - 1341" - stands firmly in Cathedral square in Vilnius. The bronze monument is the work of sculptor Vytautas Kasuba and it was unveiled 1996. Gediminas was among other things the man who changed the capital from Kernave to Trakai and later to Vilnius.
5. The statue was our meeting point in Vilnius and I suppose it may be in the same function with many other tourist groups. I also noticed, that the pedestal of the monument was also a nice sitting place for people living in Vilnius. You can take a little break under the Gediminas eyes, see the marvellous cathedral from there, look at the people passing by and enjoy city life.
6. - 7. I had seen this statue before, but it still made me look at it very carefully again. It is huge, it is massive and it makes me understand how much Lithuanians appreciate their duke.
